Why
choose
Educational Rescue champions a comprehensive approach: every aspect of the child’s life that could influence the problem is attended to. Some practitioners who treat children specialise in relatively narrow areas, but sometimes problems can turn out to have different causes from what was originally thought to be the case. Often, a specialist is consulted, and when that doesn’t solve the problem, a different type of specialist is sought. Each specialist puts the child through the full process of diagnosis and treatment (but sometimes, only diagnosis: many educational psychologists will produce a report that contains recommendations for implementation by others who are not educational psychologists). With time, the situation worsens. The child is labelled “a problem child” and this eventually becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy: everyone learns to accept and expect failure.
Educational Rescue avoids such pitfalls by attending to all aspects within the framework of a single practitioner and a single course of treatment. Children do not exist in a vacuum, which is why an all-encompassing approach has a higher chance of success: by addressing several points simultaneously, it can pinpoint the direct causes of problems more easily.
Educational Rescue offers a unique service that is thorough and highly effective. It selects methods that have been developed, tested and approved by scientists for their efficacy. Instead of using the standardised tests that most educational psychologists use (e.g. IQ tests and the like), it employs a process called “experimental teaching” to assess the quality of metacognitive skills (the skills that direct thinking, learning and problem-solving). Full, expert treatment follows on from there. It is a labour-intensive method, but it offers a long-term solution for educational problems. Labelling children and then handing the parents a report for others to act on does not solve problems. There is a different and more effective way of doing things. That way is the way of Educational Rescue.
